Love Is Blind's Kwame Receives Racist Messages: Cast Reactions

October 2024 · 3 minute read

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Love Is Blind season 4.

No matter the drama, they have his back. Love Is Blind season 4 stars, including Micah Lussier, sent their support to Kwame Appiah after he received racist messages in response to his appearance on the show.

“Waking up to some really nasty messages, so I’ll share 1 with you all,” Kwame, 33, captioned a Saturday, March 25, Instagram video, one day after the latest season of Love Is Blind dropped on Netflix.

The Ghana native — who was involved in a messy love triangle with Micah, 27, and Chelsea Griffin, on the series — shared with fans that he was called the N-word by a social media user.

“You’re all entitled to your opinion, and reflection on the show. But, waking up to multiple messages like this, is NOT OK,” Kwame addressed his followers. “Things like this are inhumane, and we’ve gotta do better.”

The sales development manager continued: “You are getting to watch a sliver of my life and judge me. Based off the purely disgusting and hateful words I’m seeing, it could be an issue with me, but it’s also definitely an issue with you.”

Kwame and Micah’s relationship quickly drew the ire of some fans — and Chelsea — who were upset to see him seemingly flirting with Micah after getting back together with the 31-year-old speech language pathologist. (Micah, for her part, broke up with Kwame to pursue her relationship with Paul Peden.)

Micah was one of many Love Is Blind season 4 cast members to speak out against the racist and deragatory messages Kwame received, doubling down on her ex’s comments.

“Thank you all for the overwhelming positive support. However, threats, insults, bigotry and just vile comments are entirely inappropriate,” she wrote via Instagram on Sunday, March 26. “We are real people, doing the best we can just like you, and we are not always perfect but we learn from these moments and move forward to be better in the future.”

She added: “If you feel the urge to say something like this please take a minute to reflect on what you are doing [and] what your intentions are. If you find that you are just trying to hurt someone and not help them be better, then please try to remove the cruelty and malice in your heart before you speak.”

Zack Goytowski, for his part, told his Instagram followers to “please send some love to the men and women of color on our show. You never know what someone is going through,” the criminal defense attorney shared via his Instagram Story on Saturday while resharing the former soccer player’s post. “There are people out there who will use anything as a pretext to spread hate. But really they just have an issue with mixed [race] couples. [Kwame] is an amazing man: Humble, accomplished and he has a huge ❤️.”
